About Us

Barberton Hospice & Palliative Care is a division of Hospice of Medina County. Hospice of Medina County is celebrating 27 years of providing quality hospice services to the community. Incorporated in 1981, Hospice of Medina County worked through two local agencies - the Medina County Health Department and Catholic Social Services. These agencies provided hands-on services that allowed the terminally-ill to stay at home, surrounded by family and friends. In those early years, the program was very small with only two or three patients at a time.

In 1995, The Robertson Bereavement Center, a community outreach of Hospice of Medina County, cut the ceremonial ribbon for the opening of The Robertson Bereavement Center. In 1997, BridgesHome Health Care, a joint venture of Hospice of Medina County and Medina General Hospital, opened. In 2002, Barberton Hospice & Palliative Care, a division of Hospice of Medina County, began serving the Barberton and surrounding areas.  In 2003, an inpatient unit, Hospice of Medina County at The Inn, opened to better serve our hospice patients who cannot be cared for at home.

Hospice of Medina County has over 70 professionals on staff that includes medical directors, nurses, social workers, home health aides, chaplains, and bereavement counselors. We are proud to have over 140 volunteers. Patients are able to have the attention of music therapists, beauticians, pet therapists, and massage therapists. We are present in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as the patient's home.

Hospice services have become part of mainstream health care with all the regulations and structure that goes with it. Barberton Hospice & Palliative Care is Medicare/Medicaid certified and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.  Hospice of Medina County also actively works with state and national organizations to ensure that quality hospice care will be here for many years to come.
