Volunteers are at the Heart of Hospice of Medina County

New Volunteer Training

More than 30 years ago, volunteers in and around Medina County who were dedicated to the hospice concept helped to create what would later become Hospice of Medina County. Volunteers are still a vital piece of the hospice care team, and as such, Hospice of Medina County is recruiting direct-care volunteers to visit patients in their homes, nursing facilities and hospitals.

Duties often include providing companionship, respite time for caregivers, reading to patients, running errands, writing letters and various tasks to assist patients and families. Recently, male patients have requested male volunteers to share their personal experiences in the war, golfing, hunting and fishing. Office volunteers are also needed. As a part of our We Honor Veterans program, Volunteer Veterans are especially needed to support other Veterans who are terminally ill and take part in our Veterans pinning ceremonies.

New volunteers receive eight weeks of training, learning the hospice philosophy, concepts of death and dying, techniques of communication with patients and families and policies and procedures of Hospice of Medina County.

Medina new volunteer training is scheduled for eight weeks,
Tuesdays, September 6 - October 25, 2011
1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Hospice of Medina County office

Minimum age is 16. To schedule an interview, contact Wendy Klubnik, Volunteer Coordinator, at 330.722.4771 or email: wklubnik@hospiceofmedina.org

Volunteers provide companionship, a listening ear, and relief for caregivers. When you volunteer at Hospice of Medina County, we begin by focusing on you. We take what you do best and give you a new, rewarding avenue in which to use your skills. A comprehensive training program prepares you for your volunteer career. Training is offered two times each year.

A Direct Patient Care Volunteer….interacts directly with the terminally-ill and their families. Volunteers provide caring compassion by holding a hand, playing cards, preparing meals, running errands, staying with the patient so the family can enjoy a well-deserved evening out, or whatever is needed to provide help and support.

An Office Volunteer….provides invaluable assistance in the Hospice office to give the staff more time to care for patients. Volunteers assemble new patient packets, file, help with mailings, and assist with computer data entry.

A Fundraising Volunteer…helps plan and assists at our fundraising events. Because Hospice of Medina County is a non-profit organization, fundraising is essential.

For information about becoming a Hospice of Medina County Volunteer, please contact Wendy Klubnik, Volunteer Coordinator, at 330.722.4771 or email: wklubnik@hospiceofmedina.org.

Just the FAQ's
Approximately 500,00 hospice volunteers contribute 13 percent of the care services provided to hospice patients and families. This is equal to 10 million hours per year. (This represents almost one volunteer for every two patients)

Volunteers – Improve someone else’s life….Improve yours.
