"We Honor Veterans"

It may surprise many people to learn that 25 percent of those who die each year in the
United States are Veterans. To help provide care and support that reflect the important contributions made by these men and women, Hospice of Medina County has become a national partner of We Honor Veterans, a pioneering campaign developed by National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Hospice of Medina County has met stringent requirements that will help improve the care their team of professionals and volunteers provide to the Veterans they proudly serve. The nation is seeing many of the Veterans who served in World War II and Korea pass away - and the number of Vietnam Veterans is rising.

The We Honor Veterans campaign recognizes organizations that have shown a commitment to improving care for Veterans. By understanding the unique needs of our nation’s Veterans who are facing a terminal illness, Hospice of Medina County is able to accompany and guide Veterans and their families toward a more peaceful ending. Additionally, in cases where there are specific needs related to the Veterans military service, combat experience or other traumatic events, Hospice of Medina County now has the tools to help support those patients more effectively. We Honor Veterans focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgement, as well as education for the staff caring for Veterans.

The program will also assist hospices in partnering with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). VA and hospices unite services and skills to provide the best care specifically tailored for Veterans, meeting their goals wherever they may be receiving care.

Hospice of Medina County’s Executive Director, Pat Stropko-O’Leary, explained, “Our American Veterans have done everything asked of them while serving our country and now it’s time to give them a hero’s welcome home. Every Veteran deserves the dignity and compassion this program provides and we are pleased to honor our Veterans.”
