Hospice of Medina County is pleased to offer these two comforting ancillary therapies:

Music Therapy

Music can name the unnamable and communicate the unknowable.
            -Leonard Bernstein (1918 – 1990)

Music Therapy is an integral component of our comprehensive care.
Patients are comforted with live and recorded music interventions based on their needs and preferences.

The use of Music Therapy can improve a patient’s emotional, physical, spiritual and physiological well being.  In a Music Therapy session, music is used to:

    - Explore and express spirituality

- Improve communication

- Assist with managing difficult emotions

- Help alleviate pain, anxiety, agitation

- Create a peaceful, supportive atmosphere

- Improve relaxation

- Promote reminiscence

Music Therapy enhances quality of life for patients nearing the end-of-life and their families.

Music is the universal language of mankind.
            -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy can relieve pain and tension. Massage can help patients sleep and improve functioning in body systems, such as helping to relieve constipation or reduce edema. It can also promote calmness and can relieve anxiety. The goal is to help patients feel relaxed and peaceful.

Pain, tension and anxiety often lodge themselves within our bodies. Using a series of therapeutic
touches and strokes, Massage Therapy is a helpful therapy to comfort hospice patients and their caregivers by reducing stress, anxiety and pain. Each Massage Therapy visit is tailored to the needs of the patient at the time of the visit.

Therapeutic Massage can provide comfort:
  • To ease tension, stiffness and pain
  • To reduce restlessness and anxiety
  • To promote mind-body connection
  • To increase circulation and breathing
  • To promote better sleep patterns
  • To increase sense of well-being
  • To increase energy
